The call was 28 minutes long, and on top of that they want me to "carefully" package the dongle, and pay for return shipping for a $15 device. When I went to contact Asus support, I was surprised at ASUS's complicated return process for an inexpensive device I could purchase from a number of other venders. Now, the dongle has started to drop connections to devices shortly after they connect. Bonus points because it could connect two devices at once.
ASUS USB BT400 UPDATE BLUETOOTH
The first while it worked fine like any other bluetooth dongle around this price range. I purchased this in late February last year. Using Bluetooth headphones I was able to hear up to ~25 feet (15 paces) from the transmitter.Īt the time of this review there is a $5 rebate on the device (38% off) until the end of 01/2017. If you are successfully paired to headphones but still cannot hear anything, try these things:ġ) Right click on the volume icon on your taskbar, select 'Playback Devices', and make sure your headphones are selected as the default device by right-clicking and selecting 'Set As Default Device'Ģ) If that is done and still no audio, try closing the program/game you are in and reopening it, or switching the in-game audio to something else and then back to headphones - both have worked for me. I paired to a Microsoft Lumia 640 and Creative SoundBlaster Jam headphones without complication. Instructions here are going to vary slightly based on the device you are using.
ASUS USB BT400 UPDATE INSTALL
It gave these messages presumably because it was trying to automatically install drivers despite my already supplying them.ġ0) I decided to unplug all non-essential USB's (all but keyboard and mouse), and move the Asus USB-BT400 to a new USB port (passthrough USB on Corsair Strafe keyboard), and then it just worked, presumably because Windows now considers it to be an old device, not new.ġ) Go to Settings -> Devices -> Bluetooth and turn it on, if it isn't on alreadyĢ) Pair with your device. "USB device not recognized - The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it." "The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."
ASUS USB BT400 UPDATE ZIP
This is the method I used:ġ) go to Asus USB-BT400 website to download latest drivers (updated ) - do this because you cannot vouch for the date/version of those on the disc.Ĥ) choose your Operating System and download the zip by clicking on 'Global' (~18 MB)ĥ) unzip the file (now ~45 MB unzipped) and open the folder until you see 2 folders - 'Drivers' and 'Installer'Ħ) open the 'Installer' folder and click on 'Setup' application (not the config file of same name)Ĩ) plug it in (protrudes 9mm as pictured).ĩ) At this point Windows gave me several discouraging messages (below) but hang in there:
